A FREE INFORMATION SESSION for Brisbane parents November 29th 2012 ‐ 7pm ‐ Toowong State School
Telling your children they can't use social networking is fighting a losing battle if you give them internet enabled devices, that can access the sites and don't know how to monitor whether they have obeyed the rules. Or perhaps they have visited a friends place and have accessed sites there, unbeknown to you. We can show you the different sites, so that you can make an educated decision as to what is appropriate for your child to use. Some sites are more secure than others. We will teach you and your child to use the security settings to protect their privacy and give you a good understanding of what information should and shouldn't be posted. We will teach you (but not your child) what children have access to and how they can hide it from you if you don't know much about the programs they are using. Eyes Open Social Media is about helping you to become actively involved in your child's social media world. Our one hour information session will give you a good understanding of where you can start to help your child adopt better protective behaviours whilst using social media. We cover: * Bullying * Digital Footprint * Predators/Sex offenders * Access to inappropriate material * Identity Theft We encourage: *Children to hold off starting social networking as long as possible *That children involve their parents in all of their social networking activities *That families work together to find a solution that best fits them Opportunities for further education options about these areas will also be available on the night.
